Movie Review: Truly meant for each other!

Finally got the time to write this.

2 States: The Story of My Marriage

I've read the book. Actually read most of his books till date and find them all trash. But I had to see this movie.
I remember it released last Friday, on Good Friday and I was scared as shit to even ask whether I could see it but finally got the chance now. And I'm so glad I did. Cause I absolutely enjoyed it! It has definitely done justice to the book as I did not care for it much when I first read it.

Thinking of it again, how in the world could a Tandoori Naan-Butter Chicken Punjabi fall for a Vada-Sambar Tam-Brahm? or let me put it the other way around.

It is a story which moves pretty fast and hence grabs the attention of many. Only the movie being two and a half hours long felt a bit too dragged.
It opens with the lead character, Krish being seated on a couch narrating the story of his life at a counselor's office.
And what's striking is that it started off with Ananya, the new girl from the South fighting with the staff asking for an extra rasgulla and Krish offering his share to her not realizing it would end up with both of them finding something in each other.

The whole story revolves around both of them and the strings attached to their relationship. They both come from two very different cultures having different ideologies and mindsets about marriage hence they have to go all out of their way trying to win the hearts of their in-laws in order to be accepted with open arms.

It shows us how India gets divided by these silly little differences.
We call ourselves progressive and contemporary. But that is all a LIE.
As even today, we are so conscious of what society thinks of us and start moving behind in our thoughts. We sadly do not have a mind of our own.
We still seem to follow all the norms of society such as dowry being one of the main curses that can destroy a family. The whole wedding preparations can fall apart if the bride's side of the family does not give what is required by the groom's.

It is also such a shocker when it comes to parents not letting their children make their own decisions related to their future lives.

And if the girl was doing barely anything with her life, then it would be a whole new different story. But she is a bright, close to success young girl. So what exactly is the issue over here?

Punjabi mothers…  let's not even get started with them. They are so obsessed and overprotective of their not-so-anymore-little boys that even if they are in the wrong, they surely will be there to save their asses.

It brings out both the cultures so distinctly. The Punjabi's being uncultured, too full of themselves, obsessive and shrewd whereas on the other hand the Madrasi's are too dumb, simple for life, naive and chilled out.

It also has a lot of humor involved in it as the parents are forever having their own little khit-phit but that doesn't really seem to disturb the young couple at all until they reach a point where they cannot take it any longer and results in the split.

Another part of the film which is an eye-catcher is when they are at the IIM campus aiming that studying the curves together after class. But which curve is a good question!

Even the way he proposes to her… Man!!!!! I cant even imagine what my reaction would be.
She is at her placement interview and he just barges in, goes on his knee, asking her to marry him and the guys taking her interview had this puzzled look on their faces wondering what exactly was happening.

The climax of the film is when the father, who Krish literally hates to death, flies down to the girl's hometown and gets the two back together.

On the whole, I thought it was a pretty decent movie. Both the lead characters did their bit. They were so strong that you could feel every emotion along with them. The stereotypical characteristics were brought out quite lucid.

And Alia was exceptionally good. Not being from the South, it was quite a difficult role to play but she managed to do a brilliant job out of it. She has definitely grown so much from her previous performances.
She is such a stunner! She definitely knows how to find her way around on screen. A natural indeed!

Kudos to all behind this film, there are many critics around but that's the only way it will become a big success and it seems to have done just that by earning numerous crores in this one week.

If you look at the rest of the world, when a boy and girl like each other, they eventually get married. But in a country like ours which still clings to society with all it's heart, it is not as easy as it looks. Actually it is more like the families marrying each other rather than the two individuals themselves.
It is still so baffling how two people from two entirely vibrant backgrounds managed to click so quickly and have their perfect ending. Such an amazing affair of the heart!
Well, that's life! You can never expect anything.

So if I could watch it almost a week after it released, dont feel bad to still go catch it. Cause you will definitely not regret it. Some liked it. Some did not. Now go see it for yourself!

But first let me take a selfie! ;)

The two lead actors, Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt with none other than the creator of this crazy love story, Chetan Bhagat.

Whatever you do, Please let it not be Modi

Sorry I haven't been around here much. Just been too busy enjoying my holidays.
But with just a few more hours to go to Our Big Election, I hope I'm not too late in convincing you why you should not vote for none other than the man, we see everywhere we go, Mr Narendra Modi.

"Vote for Modi. Vote for Change."
Oh really?! Who is he trying to fool?
We may be "Modi-fied" but in a truly disgusting way!

There is nothing constructive in his so-called agenda so we are literally just thrown in the dumps.
He may have done a lot in Gujarat in terms of infrastructure but that doesn't make him some sort of a HERO. That is his job as the Chief Minister to take Gujarat to greater heights.
On the other hand, what has he done about the minorities in the very same state? Their safety is left in the lurch and he cares a damn about it. He just chooses to not focus on the more important issues and that is something we cannot turn a deaf ear to.

He preaches about the empowerment of women. But does he really respect them? I don't think so cause in that case he wouldn't just throw his wife into the dustbin.

If Mr Modi comes to power, you can be sure to say goodbye to all the freedom you ever did have. We will  be under another Hitler government as in his eyes we will be considered invisible. There will be no laws or order just him as the king and we all falling at his feet. We will have no say in any matters and that's it, forget about enjoying the rest of your life.

He is a Hindu Extremist. Whether you accept the fact or not. All you hard core beef-eaters will have to find substitutes or else you just might be hanged.
We will live in a country of no morals and corruption is just going to get worse.

When a journalist asked 55 year old C Veeraji, a former BJP ward member from Avanyapuram about Modi, her reply was: "What is it?" An object? An ailment?"
There you go...  You got the right answer.
I believe that we could be sick for a very long time with that kind of an ailment.

It seems that the reason he is doing these numerous road shows and campaigns is because he is extremely petrified inside but too chicken to let out all the fear.

"Abki Baar Modi Sarkaar"
It would be quite amusing if this actually becomes reality.

A Modi Sarkaar is definitely going to be a big threat to all of us. Like Mr Kejriwal had also mentioned earlier: "Vote for Modi and lose all your farmland"
This is not something only the farmers should shiver about, we will all lose everything we have. Our identity. Our self esteem. Our dignity.
So use your brains wisely and do not get carried away with all these NaMo stunts.

Not worth it at all!

People may say give him a chance since the Congress has not done anything marvelous these past few years that they were governing us, but really?! Would you even consider something like that? You are just wasting your time and will definitely regret it.

We need someone to clean up this dirty mess which has been stacked up for years and years to count now( not referring to the AAP at all). We need someone to appreciate and respect women all across the country and completely do away with rape.
We need someone who will start thinking about the future of the country and that will hopefully help us choose the right party. Everyone have their strengths and weaknesses so be alert. See who is most suitable according to you.
They all may seem like culprits and one worse than the other but better than NaMo for sure.

So don't let all this Modi nonsense get into your heads too much. Follow your gut!

We need a change. A good change. So just have faith!

Good luck Bangaloreans! Be responsible citizens and think hard before you cast your vote tomorrow.

What it takes to be the Next Miss India

"People told me from the moment I gently opened my glittering eyes while entering into this world that I was going to be the next Miss India."

Sometimes I actually do wish it was that easy for these girls who have dreamt all their lives to be just that.
The lengths they have to go through to prove to themselves and the rest of the world what they are and who they can be is totally insane.
They work their butts off day and night to be on top but surely enjoy every bit of it too.
It is extremely nerve-racking for the family and friends around them as they have to be huge support systems to reduce the stress and tension and encourage them to push themselves harder to greater heights.

The Miss India is a national pageant which takes place every year where the so-called "beautiful" girls from all across the country compete for that one and only- most stunning crown. The winner represents the country at Miss World, the first runner-up at Miss Earth and the second runner-up at Miss Supranational.

Most often, it is mislead that you have to either have beauty or brains to reach somewhere in this world but for these girls, the competition is so very intense that they have to be the jack-of-all-trades to even stand a chance anywhere in the battle.

Beauty is often referred to as being skin deep. It just means the outer appearance of an individual. What this pageant is looking for is, true beauty and that is brought out through only what they believe in.
All their ever so appealing features will not get them anywhere if they do not have that one thing that makes them stand out from the rest.

Confidence is something that will take every individual far, far ahead in the pageant. There is so much to compete with that it makes it all the more advantageous for those who have it in them.

They are grilled through many sessions by various eminent folks so that they have a better chance at clinching that title.
They also have to prove that they have all it takes to be the Next Niss India by supporting various causes and having their own organizations.

Giving back to the world!

Apart from that, they also have to be attractive enough for people to see who they are so they have to take extra care of their hair, skin and fitness. It is these last few months that have been so crucial for them that have taught them the most in life.

To get inspired and be inspired by every contestant is extremely important and acts as a plus point for each other. Learning to deal with those bitchy girls for that long a period can be a real pain in the ass but that is something that comes with the entire package.

The one who has that perfect smile is definitely the go-getter in this fight. It captures everything about the entire personality.

Being able to hold yourself and knowing how to put yourself out there is an art that has to be learnt.
And once you've got the crown on your head, it just doesn't end there...
Today it seems that this is the easiest way to get a ticket into the world of Bollywood.

Your life has just begun!!!!

So remember it's not just about the glitz and glamour but there is also another side to it altogether and hopefully it is one which benefits them.

With less than a few hours to goooo, I wish all the wanna-be beauty queens the very best of luck and may the best be the one who is that Next Miss India!

Also, don't forget to catch the telecast on Sunday the 13th, at 7 pm on Colors.

The Hero In My Life

Was just doing a bit of cleaning up and couldn't believe what I managed to find. My 9th standard essay that I wrote about the person I admire the most.

"He is my everything
 He is my all
 He is my everything
 Both great and small
Though the storm clouds darken the          sky, making everything blue
 He is my everything
 Dear Abba, I love you"

A hero for a child usually turns out to be his parents, elder sibling or his "best-est" friend. But for me, it is my Grandfather or my "Abba"

Mr Fredrick Peres or more commonly known to everyone as Freddy is the HERO in my life. He was the son of Marian and Mary Peres and is also my grandfather.

Freddy having been born of a noble family was everything that is just and true. He had very high ideals in life and cherished dignity and honour. He had sailed through a stormy journey but smiled all along. He was the bravest man I had ever come across who always stood up for what he believed in. He was very loyal and has done everything right just to make his family happy and super proud of him.

My grandfather was a very determined man who worked extremely hard to get the best in life for his family. He was a very patient person and always said: "Unless you give time for things to happen, it will never."
I have learned from him that if you want something in life, the only way to get it is to put in hardwork, have a little courage in yourself and faith in God.

Born and raised in Mangalore, he and his family have had a tough life. They were not a very rich family but one of the best known families out there. They were a family of five brothers and four sisters which was difficult to manage but somehow their parents were able to give them a good education.
They have always been extremely optimistic and that is why today each one of them is prosperous and have made something for themselves. All the boys had to work on the estates from a very tender age but still did not whine or complain, they were more than just happy to do it.

My family is definitely talented in every field possible. Whether it is music, art, dance, theatre, academics or sport. And each member is proud of each other for what they do. The Peres clan is huge but everyone makes it a point to meet up atleast once in a way. This is what keeps us together as one.

Freddy had a collosal heart. Always willing to help people and was always keen on charity. As a matter of fact, he was involved with many charity associations such as the Vincent de Paul and lived the statement ,"If you have two coats, keep one and give away the other to someone who will need it." He also educated lots of people with his knowledge. His one goal in life was that he could make it possible for all citizens of the world to have the opportunity to be called "educated". He believed that money comes and goes but education is that one thing that will stay with you forever and you can get the best you want out of it.
I have also learnt from him that it is honorable to put yourself aside sometimes and let others step ahead of you and help them in every way you can, when you can. But on the contrary, I learnt that being aggressive and courageous to do what is right is the secret that will take you all the way to the top of the world.

There are many incidents that come to my mind which we have shared together. And I would like to share one of them with you. The first four years of my life was spent in Dubai and so when I came to India, I hated going to school. One day, my grand dad asked me if I would not cry the next day and I boldly told him: "I will not cry Abba, as I am not going to school again".
These are those memories that are still within my heart. He always wanted to see that big smile on my face and felt like crying when I did.

He was my pride, my guide, my inspiration and even more my bestest friend. I never pictured him as a grandfather as he was very soft-spoken, gentle, calm, would never raise his voice and most of all very understanding.
When I took a liking for music, he was so proud of me. He would always be around when I practised the piano. Encouaged me and pushed me to all limits. So I can proudly say that I am the person I am today partly because of my "Abba".

Being a Mangy, he was a smash hit at the parties. My grandmum always would say that he had two left feet but that did not bother him at all, he would just dance away and after a couple of drinks would even start to sing. This just proves he was that person who loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest!

My grandfather was not the type of person who took shortcuts in life. He has taken the road less travelled which has made all the difference. He has never been afraid to stand out and be different. He had this charm that if a person who spent just about five minutes with him, would be able to come back in another ten years and say that who could ever forget a man like him- such an amazing person!
Speaking of amazing, he had gone through hell in the early 2000's when he was diagnosed with cancer (the most dreadful disease on this planet).  But that did not change anything in his life, he carried on doing his daily chores and simply enjoyed meeting and talking to people. And with that contagious smile of his, no one had the slighest clue of what he was exactly going through.
Even before he left us, he had celebrated his 75th Birthday, four months prior to his death having the time of his life.
He is the first man that I have ever come across to have survived with cancer for almost seven years without one complain or even trying to find fault with anything or anyone.
He was indeed a man out of this planet!

Abba's blessings and compliments is something that I grab every opportunity to earn his words of praise. Sometimes even though it is awfully hard to strive to my grandfather's level of perfection, I always try my best to trod in his footsteps.

My "Abba", a true success story has not only touched my life but he has motivated my spirit to unturing zeal. My heart swells with pride when I am called "Freddy's grand-daughter" and I am sure that my Abba looks down on me quite often and feels the same.

He was clothed with utmost strength and dignity. He spoke with wisdom and love. He always said that he was the luckiest man on this earth to be blessed with such a beautiful family.
All the credit goes to you, my Abba!!! If not for you, I don't know where we would be today.

He was such a gem of a person and a lovely man to be around with. There is not even enough words in the dictionary to describe the kind of man he was. He was talented in his own way, definitely capable, responsible, noble, dignified, courageous, soft spoken and I can go on and on...
For him, his family always came first and that is something with deep pride I inherit from him. Family means everything. Without them having your back, you reach nowhere.

Abba, today I want to thank you for being the hero in my life, an inseparable element of my journey and the driving force behind my every success.
My only goal and purpose in life is to be just like my grandfather as I feel it would be the greatest gift I can give back to him.
Although I have to accept the fact that he is not with me today, I know he is always inside my soul, guiding me through every step I take and never leaving my side.
You are my Abba, my everything, I miss you alot and want you to know that I am ever so grateful and privledged to be your grand-daughter and still cherish every moment I had with you.
I also want you to know that I love you with all my heart and you will always be my hero, no matter what!
