If you call yourself a 90's kid, then you are sure to have worn those baggy, most comfortable scraps of cloth at some point of your life.
I remember being that kid at the age of 3 so proud to show off, one of the very few pair of dungarees I owned. They were smart, trendy and looked so appealing to the eye that I could live in them all the time.
"Dungaree" is also most commonly known as an overall. It was related to a coarse calico fabric that was made and sold in a region near Dongari Killa in Bombay in the early 1800's.
It has been around since then, where farmers and construction workers wore them to protect themselves from the dangers of their hard labour. And since it was worn by this class of people, the materials used were quite cheap and poorly woven and it was taken into account to be of a very low status. Not many people would even consider wearing them. Women were also seen wearing them during the First World War.
Over the years especially towards the 40's and 50's it became a fashionable statement. People from all over the world started turning towards it as something accepted in society. It was at first perceived as something worn only by little children but slowly that changed and with the emergence of the 70's, it came back with a bang.
Many designers across the world make their own decisions seeing what will suit people the best. Dungarees could be worn either casually or formally depending on the occasion.
Denim is most suited for casual wear. Dark wash dungarees worn with a mini sized tee and a pair of sneakers blends quite well.

If you want to be a little more adventurous, then you could go for the stripped overalls with a crop top or polka dot dungarees.
With spring here, what a better way to enjoy it with floral dungarees and boots or wear plain dungarees with a floral shirt and wedges to add to that chic factor.
Dungarees with a frilly top looks so sophisticated indeed!
In case you need to go for a high-profile party and want to make a big appearance, only be surprised how a pair of leather dungarees could do the trick!
Or wear them with stilettos finishing them off with a classy look
With summer just around the corner, people are quite hesitant in wearing anything that would stick to their bodies with the temperatures that keep rising like crazy but guess what?!
There is more to this "best winter clothing", the shortalls stood out last year. It is a mixture of overalls and shorts and the best thing to wear to the beat the heat.

For those who love to be a part of the whole Summer theme, nothing like bright coloured dungarees.

Orange Neon
Bright Red
Sunny Yellow
And if dungarees ain't your thing, then you don't have much to worry about, as there are variations to this attire. Like for the Spring season, dungaree dresses have been the most worn attire.

Being creative is a part of the agenda of every competitive designer and hence they try to add a variety of twists to this apparel.

At the London Fashion Week 2012, the collection TopShop Autumn/ Fall 2012 was just mind blowing indeed and there are a few others who brought out soft velvet textures too.
Many celebrities such as Alexa Chung, Ashley Tisdale, Daisy Lowe, Selena Gomez, LeAnn Rimes and Rihanna have all been spotted wearing dungarees in recent times.

It is something we all should try at least once in our lifetime as it no more sticks to only being that 90's trend. Alexa Chung, according to me is like the queen of dungarees as she carries it out exceptionally.
Today it is said to be all retro and cool. It is most definitely a run for your money so dont think twice. Just go for it!

This is my personal favourite! =))) |
It is quite a common phenomenon being seen coming in and out constantly but it doesn't seem like it will ever die out forever. Look around and you will still find a lot of people who are madly in love with it. Can one blame them?
